Relief Operation for Tsunami in Chennai in 2004
After the Tsunami disaster on 26th December 2004, Sukarya team of volunteers at Injanbakam Temple, Chennai started the initial relief work by providing food and other important materials to the people. 250 Kilograms of essential materials like water, food items, medicines, clothes etc. was air lifted on 30th December 2004 and 509 Kilograms on 9th January 2005 from Delhi through Sahara Airways.
A team of six Sukarya volunteers reached Chennai on 18th January 2005. They surveyed the affected area and identified Pudhunadukuppam village in need of relief assistance. Essential food items, utensils, clothes, blankets, medicines etc. were provided to all the families of this village. Additionally, a financial assistance of Rs. 500/- was also provided to the families who were left without any male earning member.
