In its effort to empower women with the overall objective of helping women become economically self-reliant, Sukarya in 2004 started a spice processing unit to give women of economically and socially backward sections a viable livelihood option. Women from neighbouring slums and rural communities in Gurgaon under training from Sukarya have been working in the unit and earning by preparing spices, cereals, atta, dalia, pickles, chutneys etc. which is being marketed to corporates and residential societies in and around Gurgaon.
At present, Sukarya is running 3 such spice processing units wherein about 30 women are engaged in preparing the various consumables. Going under the brand of ‘Saathi’ masala the USP of our products is that it is unadulterated, made out of premium quality raw material and therefore of very high quality and very nutritious as these are prepared on hand chakkis.
Our products have therefore been accepted widely and we have been able to successfully market these in some of the corporates who have been facilitating monthly sale of our products in their premises. We have also been holding monthly sales in several dedicated residential societies with the support of the local RWAs.
This has been a modest step by Sukarya towards assisting women of marginalised communities in generating additional income for meeting their household needs, by utilizing their skills in the production of unadulterated spices. We would like to expand this initiative to be able to help many more women economically and socially. To do this we wish to seek your support. Remember when you buy ‘Saathi’ masala you are in turn helping a woman earn and contribute to her and her family’s development.
