Launching of “KIRAN Pariyojna” on 25th February, 2010

Population Foundation of India PFI and Sukarya is jointly implementing the KIRAN Pariyojna (Knowledge based Intervention for Reproductive health Advocacy and action) across 29 villages (12 of Tauru and 17 Nuh block) of Mewat District covering a total population of 70,000.

The project was officially launched on 25th February, 2010. The inauguration ceremony was held in the auditorium of Yasin Meo Degree College, Nuh. The inaugural ceremony started with lighting the lamp by Dr. Sayeeda Hamid, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India.
 
This was followed by a welcome song by Community Health Workers (CHWs) of KIRAN Project. Addressing the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and all other distinguished dignitaries; Dr. Joshi, project manager of Kiran project welcomed all the participants.
 
Mrs. Meera Satpathy, Chairperson, Sukarya briefed the audience about the mission and objectives of Sukarya. She explained how Population Foundation of India (PFI) and Sukarya through the Kiran project will be working towards a healthy Mewat. She further shared that the objectives of the project is to improve reproductive and child health, promote positive health seeking behaviour through IEC/BCC activities in Tauru and Nuh block of Mewat district. Mr. A R Nanda, Executive Director, Population Foundation of India introduced the KIRAN Pariyojna at length. In his insightful address, Mr. A R Nanda briefed about the mission, objectives and thematic areas of PFI and its presence across states.In his address, Mr. Rao Abhay Singh Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Mewat and Gurgaon congratulated Mr. A R Nanda, Mrs. Meera Satpathy and fellow colleagues for designing Kiran Pariyojana for Mewat and expressed his thankfulness for the benevolent presence of Mrs. Sayeeda Hamid, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India in one of the disadvantaged district like Mewat and other dignitaries invited in the program. While reiterating his support and cooperation in the venture; he also endorsed the importance and relevance of health interventions for the people of Mewat who are suffering from poor health conditions.

Dr. Sayeeda Hamid congratulated Sukarya and PFI team for designing and launching of Kiran project. Referring to the importance of institutional delivery she requested all women to go in for institutional deliveries. While talking on female literacy she requested the audience to send their children to school.

Subsequently, four Community Health Workers (CHWs) Aasha Begam, Beena, Dinesha and Rajbala shared their experience and learning under Kiran project.
